Jessica Calderwood
CONTEMPORARY PRECIOUS
Muncie, IN
Jessica Calderwood uses enamel to create unusual portraits, both rendered as if in ink or charcoal, or in soft, chalky pastel colors, blending mid-century modern America in its blandness with a head swap to a bouquet of flowers. These strange creatures communicate as much humanity as a full bust sculpture. This particular piece, entitled Masculine Fem, has two sides, blurring the gender line with an androgynous close-up of lips.
