Graceful, comfortable and with a beautifully simple economy of decoration, Juanita Girardin’s handwoven clothing is lovingly embellished with embroidery and appliqué. Touches of bright color stand out against the black canvas of a vest or jacket, with white patterns sewn in thread breaking up the interior into grids and stripes. Recently she has moved into focusing on scarves, using them as canvases for bright portraits made from appliquéd squares of fabric. In all these cases, her clothing and accessories form the perfect compliment to simple clothes in base colors.
