Mina Norton is the undisputed queen of understatement. From her early days of handwoven jackets to her current oeuvre of felted wool coats and stretched rayon fabric vests, she takes her background of being taught as a painter to bring a careful eye to the surface design of her garments. A splash of red, a tab of color, sets the whole gradiated field of grey into context. Her clothes have an elegance to them, drawing on the scattering aspect of light, as if illuminated from an unknown source.
