With our newest issue, Leslie Clark presents the stunning woven metal and enameled jewelry of Jeanie Pratt, whose work often portrays stylized insects and sea creatures. Pratt is frequently in demand as a workshop teacher worldwide of her unique work, a meld of her love of textiles and metals.

Kimberly Chrisman-Campbell reviews the history of the Breton shirt, worn by French sailors and others in the maritime trade, but transformed over the years from utilitarian garment to bold fashion identity. From Coco Chanel to Gaultier, the blue and white stripes have never been trendier.

Diana Pardue showcases vintage and contemporary Native American jewelry in Heard Museum’s exhibition, “Small Wonders”. These pieces demonstrate their craftsmanship, innovation and ingenuity with both humor and technical finesse.

Ashley Callahan details the career of Ruth E. Carter, a costume designer dedicated to research, masterful use of detail in elevating Black characters and incorporation of traditional African adornment in her costumes for movies and television.
