Welcome to our latest edition of Ornament Magazine! In this issue, Leslie Clark presents a fascinating and deeply moving glimpse into the life of Amy Nguyen, showing her deep commitment to her sublime and innovative clothing, the result of careful and laborious procedures, which reflect her spiritual and lifestyle practices. Her textile art represents a thoughtful confluence between East and West.

Patrick R. Benesh-Liu explores this extraordinary exhibition of Japanese folk clothing, as well as remarkable examples of Ainu dress and other native peoples of Japan, based primarily upon the collection of Thomas Murray, at the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts.

Kimberly Chrisman-Campbell tells the story of the only fashion show ever held at the White House, in 1968, organized under the auspices of Claudia “Lady Bird” Johnson, when America was at the height of the Vietnam War. The turbulence of the era found its contrast with this patriotic event, meant to illustrate both traditional American values and new shifts in fashion.

David Updike delves deeply into this year’s Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show, as it returns to being a solely in-person affair. He highlights emergent and established artists, giving us insight into a world in transition.
